KADIZA Beautiful At All Ages - Halal Certified Cosmetic Company
March 14, 2014
I'm sure you've heard of sisters, brothers, even couples who open online shops or boutiques, but almost all of them offer clothes such as abayas, kaftans, hijabs, etc. And, how often do you hear of a sister who starts a business in an online cosmetic company? So , when Liyana introduced me to Kadiza, of course it got my attention since I have never heard of a halal certified cosmetic company. Kadiza is an online multibrand halal cosmetic company founded by a Muslim couple, Liyana Khan and Alpah Nallah Bah. I had to ask how are the products Kadiza offers differ from products in a local drugstore? Kadiza focuses on 100% natural and halal-certified cosmetic products world wide with no animal testing. They offer products for men's and women's from skincare, makeup to hair care from Pure Halal Beauty, The Halal Cosmetics Company, FX Cosmetics.
Q: What made want to start a business in the cosmetic industry?
A: Liyana: Mainly it all started from my skin. Acne-prone, sensitive and dehydrated - all the worst conditions you can possibly get. Plus I come from a genetic line of breast cancer, so I can never be extra careful on the types of ingredients I am putting on my face and in my body. Halal beauty products are out there in the market, but it is so difficult to identify where they are, what they are, how much etc, that it becomes alot easier to just go to your beauty shop and buy an item from the shelf. And that is why we created Kadiza - to provide a convenient place for us to shop for Halal-certified beauty products and be assured that the ingredients we put on our face and body are safe and effective.
A: Nalla Bah: Well to me it was more of two
reasons. Obviously seeing Liyana struggle to find products that are good for
her skin. Then we found out she isn’t alone in this struggle. Secondly, as
a muslim helping the muslim sisters to get their hands easily on halal products
and benefit from them was definitely something we wanted to get involved in.
Q:
How are the products Kadiza offer differ from products offered at department
stores or drugstores?
A: Liyana: First and foremost it is Halal. Which
means the ingredients are derived from plants, and if it does come from animals,
it is retrieved through ethical means. Plus, most of the products are
Vegan-friendly and are not tested on animals.
Secondly, you will
receive a premium customer service. Therefore, if you have any concerns on the
ingredients, you can drop us an email and we will speak to the owners of the
brands to clarify this and you are guaranteed a response.
Third - there are
also strong motivating factors behind the creation of each brand. For example,
Halal Cosco was created after years of research because the founder suffered
from breast cancer. PHB was created because the founder was Vegan and she finds
it so difficult to get beauty products that doesn't go against her personal
believes. FX Cosmetics was created by 3 sisters who are looking for safe,
natural cosmetic beauty - and one of them is a doctor.
So when you shop at
Kadiza, you know that the products and belief system is strong. And you will
get what you pay for, insha'allah.
Q:
What kind of cosmetic products does Kadiza carry?
A: Liyana: Kadiza carries all kind of beauty
products. Body care, Skin care, Hair care and Cosmetics.
For example, we
have the PHB Rejuvenating Body Butter that relieves dryness & provide 24hr skin hydration.
The rejuvenating organic oils also helps to renew, firm & detoxify.
Halal Cosco
Ultimate Anti-Aging Night Cream that regenerates your skin while you sleep with
Almond Oil, Collagen and Astaxanthin.
FX Cosmetics Oil
Free Matte Liquid Foundation is perfect for normal to oily skin. It is
non-drying and is hypoallergenic.
And there are truly
a lot more products to fit your requirement.
Q: What
is your favorite Kadiza product? (Why)
A: Liyana: FX Retexturising Face Primer - everyone needs a good base.
Q: What
ingredients should consumers be wary of when considering skin care products?
A: Liyana: By no means are we doctors or dermatologists, but based on our research, these are the top 2 ingredients to avoid. But a caution, please consult your doctor and/or dermatologist.
Pareben and SLS are
the top 2 and none of our products have these.
Parebans are
basically preservatives that prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and yeast in
cosmetic products. As good as that sounds, it is also associated with increased
risk of breast cancer, are absorbed through the skin and have been identified
in biopsy samples from breast tumors. They can be found in makeup, body washes,
deodorants, shampoos and facial cleansers. Our everyday products and food that
we are not aware of.
SLS os Sodium
Lauryl Sulfate can be found in more than 90% of personal care and cleaning
products. Alone, it can just be a skin, lung and/or eye irritants. However, if
this ingredient is combined with other chemicals that form nitrosamines, it may
potentially lead to kidney and respiratory damage. This can notoriously be
found in shampoo, body wash or cleanser, mascara and acne treatment.
Again, do go
to www.facebook.com/kadiza.beauty as
we continue with our research and share our findings with our fans,
insha'allah.
Q: What
is a good skin care solution for oily skin and dry skin?
A: Liyana: For both, the most important thing is
Moisturize. Those with oily skin is always scared to moisturize as they claim
they are "moisturized" enough - I used to think that too. And now, i
have oily but dehydrated skin, and that is the worst combination you can have.
So, moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.
And it is important
to go for regular facials that fit your skin tone, wearing masques at home once
a week and regular night cream are essential.
Lastly, you are
what you eat. As mundane as that sounds and as difficult as it proves to change
your eating habit, you must. Lots of water, vegetables, balanced meal. Again,
Kadiza will look into these closely to support you in a more beautiful you
inside and out, insha'allah.
Q: What
should every woman have in her makeup bag?
A: Liyana: The essentials - primer, face powder,
blusher, bronzer, portable brush, mascara and eyeliner.
Also, lipstick to
ensure your lips are always fresh. One of the biggest turn off is to have a
faded lip colour that makes you look tired and dull.
Not forgetting lip
balm. Chap lips are unattractive.
If you are a Muslim, a small pouch with makeup remover and your facial set in small portable
bottles that you would bring with you into the airport. We all want to look
beautiful and presentable, but that doesn't mean missing on prayers and also
the reason why you need all the basic cosmetics ready.
Q:
Where do you see Kadiza in five years? What’s next?
A:
Liyana: The number
1 go-to retailer for Halal Certified and Safe beauty products globally,
insha'allah. We look at quality rather than quantity, so you will see that we
work with selected vendors who walk the walk, and practice what they preach.
